Course Description

Whether you are seeking initial residential builder licensing or want to become a licensed R-2000* builder, this course will help you meet your goals. This is also the suggested course for participating in the EnerGuide* and ENERGYSTAR® for New Homes program.

Explain the “house-as-a-system” concept

Understand building science that affects durability and occupant comfort, including heat flow and moisture flow

Explain the relevance of energy and resource efficiency to environmental responsibility

Recognize the relationship between materials and envelope barriers

Identify the role of various mechanical systems

Determine engineered building components

Appreciate the importance of climate-specific construction

Course Format

All online courses require successful completion of the following components:

  • Review all course materials in full
  • Complete online chapter quiz questions and assignments
  • Attend an 1.5 day online webinar session, which is an instructor-led high level review of course materials
  • Write an online proctored final exam (an 80% passing mark on the final exam is required to successfully complete the course)

All in-person courses require successful completion of the following components:

  • Review all course materials in full
  • Complete online chapter quiz questions and assignments
  • Attend a 2 day in-person session, which is an instructor-led high level review of course materials
  • Write a in-person final exam at the end of Day 2 (an 80% passing mark on the final exam is required to successfully complete the course)
