Course Description

To receive the “Relevant Enactments” qualification requirement for New Residential Builders as set out by the Licensing and Consumer Services Branch of BC Housing, you must complete both BC Building Code Part 1 AND Part 2 (Please note that Part 1 must be taken before Part 2).

Identify the location of key aspects of Division B, Part 9, relating to residential construction.

Identify structural materials and methods of assembly relating to foundations, superstructure, and roof structure.

Recognize building envelope concerns and methods for keeping the weather out (including insulation, air barriers, and vapour barriers).

Identify heating and ventilation systems controlling indoor air quality.

Identify installation of interior finishes, such as flooring, cabinetry and trim work.

Course Format

All online courses require successful completion of the following components:

  • Review all course materials in full
  • Complete online chapter quiz questions and assignments
  • Attend an online webinar session, which is an instructor-led high level review of course materials
  • Write an online proctored final exam (an 80% passing mark on the final exam is required to successfully complete the course)

All in-person courses require successful completion of the following components:

  • Review all course materials in full
  • Complete online chapter quiz questions and assignments
  • Attend an in-person session, which is an instructor-led high level review of course materials
  • Write a in-person final exam (an 80% passing mark on the final exam is required to successfully complete the course)

Course Material

The Student Manual, “British Columbia Building Code Part 2” (included as part of the course fee). It is mandatory that students have access to a copy of the 2018 BC Building Code book (available for purchase at www.bccodes.ca). It is up to the student to determine if they want a hard-copy version or an electronic version.
