Course Description

This webinar looks into the building science implications when renovating historical walls-masonry and wood frame. Clear approaches to design priorities when planning for enclosure retrofits and the technologies that can assist in construction. Hosted by BKC Principal Andy Oding and Expert Building Science Guest, Trevor Trainor, President Bawating Building Science.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain an understanding of the basic building science concepts relevant to retrofitting lowrise residential masonry and wood historical walls.
  • Knowledge of the existing wall and material condition and associated risk when changing heat/air/moisture flow, historical construction techniques, risk analysis of existing materials related to moisture exposure and durability.
  • Recognize various strategies for insulating and air tightness improvement and the impact on hygrothermal performance.

Trevor specializes in the performance of wall and roof systems in extreme cold climates and applies the principles of building science to Indigenous housing issues. His experience in lab and field research, hydrothermal modeling, and forensic investigations gives him a unique perspective in the development of high-performance building enclosure designs.
