Course Description

Join our presenters as they explore insights into high R-value Part 9 wall and roof assemblies, with excerpts from the Builder Visual Guide to the BC Energy and Zero Carbon Step Codes presentation. Originally recorded at the CHBA BC 2025 Education Summit, topics explored in this 1.5 hour video include:

  • Exploring the BC Housing Research Centre and how it helps to advance industry practices;
  • Discussing best practices when building to the BC Energy and Carbon Step Codes;
  • Exploring why high R-values are important;
  • Breaking down advanced wall assemblies and how utilizing them in your construction will help achieve Step Code levels;
  • Reviewing advanced roof construction techniques, looking at both advantages and disadvantages in using them.

Presenters include: Wilma Leung (Senior Manager, Technical Research & Education, BC Housing), Mark Bernhardt (President of Bernhardt Contracting and CEO of Energy Code Solutions), and Terry Kowal (CHBA BC Policy Advisor, Codes & Standards).
