Course Description

This series of eLearnings prepare you with knowledge needed to understand high performance building enclosure systems for new homes. It includes 3 course modules intended to progress your knowledge of the primary control functions of the building enclosure system and how these systems are constructed to effectively manage water, airtightness, and thermal control.

Each eLearning course module includes interviews with subject matter specialists and builders, case studies, photos & illustrations, and activities. Together, these module lessons educate you on appropriate material selection, enclosure configurations, and other important considerations to be made when building high performance building enclosures in BC.

While each module can be completed on its own, we recommend taking all three modules in the following order:

• Module 1: Water Management
• Module 2: Airtightness
• Module 3: Thermal Control

Module 2: Airtightness 

• This 8 lesson module introduces the concept of building enclosure control layers, including the air control layer, and review potential outcomes of poor airtightness that builders can avoid by implementing an appropriate air barrier system and quality assurance tactics.
• The content provides practical guidance on selecting application-specific materials and assemblies and maintaining effective airtightness at common building enclosure details.
